In Nigeria, pure water is generally known as water packaged in small 50cl sachets and sold for little amount of money. The pure water business is a very fast moving and lucrative business, as can be seen in the number of pure water sellers at every major road, and side streets. Most pure water sachets come with a NAFDAC registration number, which serves as evidence that the water has been tested and certified to be healthy for drinking by NAFDAC. For the manufacturers of pure water, it is easier and cheaper to produce sachet water than it is to produce bottled water. Secondly because of the hot weather we experience here in Nigeria, pure water is a handy source of water to quench your thirst on a hot day that is why it sells fast, some sellers sell up to 3 bags of pure water in a day, and more in an extremely hot weather. Thirdly, it is not everybody can afford to buy bottled water to drink every time they become thirsty. Pure water is the cheaper option available as it goes for between N5 and N10 per sachet depending on the location. Finally, it is cheaper for Wholesalers to start a pure water business and sell in bags to Retailers, as it does not require a large amount of capital or machinery to start.
