Mobile phones are more of a necessity in Nigeria, unlike back then in the days of NITEL when it was luxury to own a phone; Nigeria is one the largest market for phone companies like Tecno, you can hardly meet a person who does not have a mobile phone these days.

Some of the things Nigerians do with their mobile phone include;

1. Making Voice Calls: the primary use of mobile phone is for voice communication; that is to make and receive calls; all thanks to the various Network Providers in the country, Nigerians can use their mobile phones to make and receive calls at very cheap rates.

2. Sending Text Messages: Another need Nigerians have for their mobile phone is to send short text messages because most times, making voices are expensive due to per second charging rate. Some people do prefer to type messages to send their info across to recipients.

3. Mobile Chatting: mobile chatting is becoming a norm for the younger generation of Nigerians; with lots of mobile chatting platforms like Whatsapp, 2go,, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Nigerians can put their mobile devices into good use. Many young people feel safer giving out their chat contacts rather than their mobile phone numbers to people they make friends with. Mobile chatting is also a lot cheaper than sending text messages or making voice calls in Nigeria.

4. Browsing the Web: There are over 22 millions active internet users in Nigeria today, and most of them access the internet with their mobile phones because of the fact that it consumes less data. Websites that provide answers like Google and the ones that report Nigerian news and events are in the lead for those who browse the web in Nigeria. Telecom companies tend to make money by providing them with data plans as a form of value added service.

5. Taking pictures and Video recording: This is also something Nigerians are getting used to. Taking quick pictures on a mobile phone or even capturing live video of events for later viewing or sharing is what some Nigerians are now into. Nowadays, Nigerians tend to store their photo album on their memory cards rather than physical photo albums as was the case in the past.

6. As a Fashion accessory: Nowadays, modern Nigerians tend to make use of their mobile phones as an important fashion accessory. A well dressed man or women may choose to carry an expensive phone in the hand just to make a fashion statement and look trendy. Most phone used a fashion items by Nigerians tend to be the more expensive new ones rather than old or cheap used ones.
