In our country today, inefficient supply of power has been a major cause for concern. Authorities with the responsibility of supplying power are no longer dependable and this has affected the development of several organizations. This has affected a lot of people too in so many ways. The ever increasing demand and supply of energy in Nigeria has critically challenged her economical growth as power is an important factor affecting industrialization. This inefficiency has been a huge challenge on TV broadcasting in so many ways especially the cable TV subscriptions.

One of the challenges this issue poses on cable TV subscriptions is that their subscribers do not get to enjoy services they pay for. For these subscribers to be able to enjoy this service, they need an adequate supply of electricity. Unlike other TV broadcasting like over-the-air transmission where nothing is paid in order to enjoy their service, cable TV is only distributed to paid subscribers. These are people who every month will pay to receive TV signals from these operators depending on the number of channel they want. This is usually on a monthly basis.

This problem does not only affect the subscribers but also the service providers. When there is no power supply, their customers are not motivated to keep subscribing. In a situation where there is a failure in power supply for almost a month or even over, the number of people that will be motivated to still subscribe will be less than the usual. Nobody wants to spend his or her money to subscribe and end up not enjoying what was paid for.

Because of the erratic power supply of Nigeria, there is no guarantee of consistent subscribers and also meaningful development on the part of the TV broadcasting company. The subscribers will not be happy to see that they are not enjoying what they pay money for and this can be a huge financial loss for the cable operators. It can actually come to a point where they decide to stop subscribing finally. As more and more of this happen, the result will not at all be encouraging.

The necessity to improve on the inefficiency of power supply cannot be over emphasized. Cable TV being one of the most popular and prevalent means of TV transmission and broad casting plays an important role in information dissemination and entertainment. When power supply remains erratic, it affects consistent subscriptions. And as this happens, people are kept from certain vital information that would have bettered their lives.

Also, when these operators keep realizing losses in their service, this will make them leave that location and look for somewhere else where the power supply will be favorable to them. Just like every other business, profit is very important. Without it there is no sense in running a business evening if it is controlled by the government. These companies need subscribers in order to keep operating – without enough of them there is no sense in keeping up the business in that particular location.
