One of the ways children derive pleasure is in the process of playing video games. In today's world where technology is the order of the day, it has become a cause for concern to some parents finding their kids always on their video games. This is basically because it can become addicting, getting in the way of their work in school.

The appeal of video games to children is not quite difficult to understand. We all have at one point or the other been a child and as such know that we have always wanted being in control but can't always have their way. They are virtually told everything to do from what to eat, what to wear, when to sleep and even when they wake up. This can extend to how they get to spend most of their day and who to hang out with. All of this gives them the feeling of not having any control what so ever over their world.

One of the few times a child feels he is in control is when he or she is engaged in a video game. This can include driving race car and lots of other video games. According to research, kids have been known to love immersion. They always love anything that can get their heads engaged for a long time – one of the things are video games. Kids just love any activity that gets them completely involved for its own sake.

These games provide an opportunity for them to immerse themselves into something-this is a very significant part of them. Also according to psychological surveys and interviews, kids most of the times get immersed in games that are very challenging and difficult. These games are usually those that take time to learn and explore. They consider it fun when they play video games that will require them to make mistakes and therefore keeping them highly focused.

According to research, games in general tend to make you as the player emotions of positivity. These emotions include excitement, pride, creativity, love, joy and so on. Over the years, game developers have discovered this, that for a game to succeed, it will depend on how many positive emotions are provoked in the process of playing.

Children have been known to love a combination of learning and fun. Whenever a learning process is accompanied with excited moments, it always attracts their attention. This is one reason most kids are always reluctant to their book reading as they consider it boring. However, when a "play" component is attached to this learning process, it then appeals to them and makes them feel engaged and connected.

Some times when asked, kids admit that they do play video games to help them relax. It helps take their minds away from certain undesirable situations around them. When they are being offended, they resort to playing games in order to get their anger out. This form of relaxation to them is a good one since they also get to learn and have fun while relaxing. Video games are no doubt a great tool for learning if engaged properly.
