Obesity occurs when the body has accumulated excess fats. A Person is considered obese when the Person’s Body Mass Index (BMI) exceeds 30 KG.

The Body Index Mass is gotten by divided a Person’s weight by his height. Obesity is usually caused by; bad Eating Habits, Lack of exercises, and sometimes genetic factors.

The number of People that are becoming obese in our Society today is very alarming. Obesity is the major cause of many dangerous diseases and Sickness; In fact it can rightly be called a Silent killer.

Obesity should be avoided at all cost; a little reduction of weight can help an Obese Person prevent some of these illnesses. This article will look at some of the major harms and dangers caused by Obesity and why it is called a Silent killer.

Dangers of Obesity and why it is a silent killer:

- Diabetes: Nearly 80 percent of all Type 2 diabetes Patients is Obese. This is because, excessive weight in the body leads to insulin resistance. When the body finds it difficult to use insulin to regulate blood sugar due to excessive fats in the body, it leads to Diabetes.

- Sleep Apnea: This is a health condition in which breathing is temporarily stopped while a Person is asleep. This is caused by Overweight. When the body is over weight, the respiratory Systems find it difficult to perform their functions due to large clusters of fats in the body. Sleep Apnea can lead to serious Heart attack or even death if not discovered on time.

- Cardiovascular Diseases: These are diseases that affect the heart, for example, heart attack, and they are mainly caused by Obesity. When there is an excess fat around the heart region, the heart finds it difficult to pump and circulate blood around the body. This is when these cardiovascular diseases occur.

- Stroke: Stroke occurs when there is too much saturated fat in the body. The fats build up and block the Arteries that help circulate blood round the body, and when these Articles are blocked, there is short supply of blood on vital organs in the body, like the Brain, this leads to stroke or partial Paralysis of some parts of the body. It is a dangerous health condition that can lead to complete paralysis of the body and even dead if left unchecked.

- Psychological and Emotional Effects: When a Person is Obese, the Person feels discriminated and rejected by other People, and this can lead to an acute case of depression. Other Psychological effects like loss of self esteem, feeling embarrassed at every slightest mistake, and being uncomfortable in public places are other issues faced by Obese People.

This article has mentioned some of the many dangers associated with Obesity. All these Health problems can be avoided by; Developing Healthy eating habits, exercising regularly, Cutting down on some bad habits like excess alcohol intake. Just a little weight loss, even if its just 10 pounds can go a long way in saving the life of an Obese Person.
