Apart from malaria, typhoid fever is another sickness that kills hundreds of thousands of people every year especially in Africa. Typhoid fever is caused by a bacterium called Salmonella Typhi; and it is transmitted when the faeces of an infected person which contain the bacteria is ingested by another person.
You may ask, how a person knowingly eat the faeces of another person since its only in such that the bacteria can be transfer; In this article, I will mention indirect ways where people contact this bacteria and how to prevent or avoid it.
In the above paragraph, I mentioned that the bacterium is transferred through the faeces of an infected person, and ways through which this happens include;
Dirty Surrounds: lets take this scenario as an instance, when the surrounding is very dirty, insects like fly can easily perch on a dirty surface or faeces that is not well disposed, and slop perch on a food that is not covered properly, anybody that eats that food is liable to contact the Salmonella Typhi which will develop to typhoid fever. . Ways to prevent contamination of typhoid fever is to keep our environment very clean and free from dirt’s, houseflies and other insects should be gotten rid of in the home. Secondly dished food should be covered properly until the owner is ready to eat it. It may also be transmitted if your cook or food vendor maintains poor hygiene such as touching your food directly or not preparing it in a hygienic environment. Thirdly, your toilets and bathrooms should be kept spotlessly clean at all time. This ways, there will be no way the bacteria can be transmitted. Finally, you should only drink water that has been treated or free from bacteria. You can make water safe for drinking by boiling it or buying already package treated water.
