After you get to a certain age, you are expected to settle down with the opposite sex and start your own family; not withstanding the rate of divorce in our marriage, people are still getting married every passing day. The question now is, why do people really get married; or rather what factors motivate a person to settle down with another person for the rest of his or her life?

1. Because Of Companionship: even the holy Bible says that a man and a woman will leave their parents to come together as one; living together means they have to stay as companions to each other, which means that companionship is one of the reasons why people want to get married. A companion is a person that will stay with you through thick and thin and shares with you the tough and happy moments. Most couples need this companionship most when they are old and feeble.

2. Posterity: posterity has to do with giving to children that will carry on your name even after you are long gone from this earth; so most people want to get married to preserve their posterity in this earth when long after you are done.

3. Love: this is very different from companion; if you share an emotional feeling with someone of the opposite sex, it is natural to want to spend a very long time with the person, and the only legal way to do so rightly is by getting married to the person. So love and emotional attachment is another reason people want to get married.
